Child and Youth Mental Health & Substance Use Community of Practice honoured with Doctors of BC Health Promotion Award

The Child and Youth Mental Health & Substance Use Community of Practice (CYMHSU CoP) was awarded the 2022 Doctors of BC Excellence in Health Promotion Award for its work in identifying gaps in care for children and youth struggling with mental health and substance use.

Under the leadership of the Steering Committee, the group has hosted several education events and webinars, which have helped to raise awareness and inform stakeholders on ways to mitigate the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

“We are honoured to receive this award from Doctors of BC. Children, youth, and families in BC continue to struggle with mental health and substance use issues and it’s our purpose to improve care for this patient population,” the Steering Committee expressed.

Accepting the award at Doctors of BC’s Award Event this past January were Drs Matthew Chow, Ramneek Dosanjh, Jana Davidson, Aven Pointer, Wilma Arruda, Dzung Vo, Shirley Sze, and Eileen Janel.

The CYMHSU CoP will continue to work alongside physicians and other stakeholders across the province to improve and fill gaps in care.

The Doctors of BC Awards seek to recognize the impressive contributions made by physicians, residents, and medical students around British Columbia. Three awards are also open to members of the public, either individually or as part of an organization, who are working to improve the health and safety of British Columbians.
