Promoting healthy medication use through Indigenous knowledge sharing
Posted on July 27, 2021
International Journal of Indigenous Health: In 2018 three Secwepemc Elders, Jean, Clara and Cecelia, provided their wisdom and input to create an Indigenous story and video, ‘Coyote’s Food Medicines’. The initiative was created in partnership by Shared Care and FNHA to address multiple medication use in First Nations Communities. Since then FNHA have continued to share the books and the video with interested communities and partners.
Storytelling is a traditional way in Indigenous communities to share knowledge, wisdom, and humour. A Coyote story includes a mix of natural and spiritual beings, including animal figures.
