First-ever JCC Showcase highlights collaborative success

The first-ever Joint Collaborative Committee Showcase since the committees were formed over a decade ago, attracted close to 400 people on February 24th in Vancouver. Participants included health care professionals, administrators, policy leaders, and 150 family and specialist physicians, from across the province. The JCCs are a partnership of Doctors of BC and the BC government, and include representatives from health authorities and patients.

The Showcase was held in partnership with the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council (BCPSQC), one day prior to the two-day 2016 Quality Forum. Combining both events was considered mutually beneficial to increase the numbers of those involved in quality improvement work coming together to learn, network and share ideas with each other.

The day was jam-packed, with a total of 147 presenters highlighting their work throughout 28 one-hour breakout sessions - including 30 Rapid Fire presentations, nine Focused presentations, four Interactive Sessions, and four Learning Sessions. There were also 22 storyboards, three plenary sessions, and a closing Storyboard Reception.  

Evaluations show a high level of satisfaction with the day and encouragingly, participants were almost unanimous in their view that the Showcase would influence some form of action or change in practice - many also stated that new partnerships and collaborations would be developed as a result.

Planning is underway for a 2017 Quality Forum — and, with the obvious enthusiasm shared for the Showcase, the Joint Collaborative Committees will continue to be part of it.
