WATCH: Cognitive Behavioural Group Therapy Program: Early Access to Mental Health Support
Posted on October 24, 2025
The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Group Program is improving access to early, equitable mental health care across BC. The program helps patients and family physicians learn practical tools to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and other common challenges—together.
Delivered through group medical visits, this eight-week program combines neuroscience, mindfulness, and CBT principles to help participants better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
The shared-learning model also gives physicians a unique opportunity to develop their own CBT and mindfulness facilitation skills alongside their patients—building capacity for mental health support within primary care.
By supporting early intervention, the program reduces barriers to mental health services—particularly in rural and remote communities—and helps lower the overall cost of care. Participants report greater self-awareness, resilience, and confidence in managing their mental well-being.
This program is funded by the Shared Care Committee, one of four Joint Collaborative Committees.
